Staged Reading Auditions!

Congratulations to Will Wiseheart!  Will is the winner of the 2009 Annual Heermans-McCalmon Playwriting Contest for his play A Kingdom of Salt.  The play is a one act play about three siblings re-telling the story of a hurricane from their youth.  There will be staged reading of A Kingdom of Salt on February 27th at 4:30 PM in the Class of ’56 Flexible Theatre.  The reading is free and open to the public.

On top of that there is a reception that will kick off the Alumni Playwrights Weekend!  This is going to be a great opportunity to meet or reconnect with five Cornell Alumni who are active playwrights.  The playwrights who will be attending are: Drew Brody ’94, Lauren Feldman ’01, Madeleine George ’96, Jennifer Maisel ’87, and Sheri Wilner ’91.

The Alumni list doesn’t stop there.  Sam Gold ’00 will be directing A Kingdom of Salt.  If you’re a student who is interested in making a connection with a director, auditioning for A Kingdom of Salt would be a great opportunity.   Auditions are on February 23 at 4:30 PM.  Sign up for a time and get more information in the Schwartz Center Green room, room 125!

I also want to congratulate our runner up, David Watts!  His play Falling Short is fantastically witty!  I look forward to reading more of his plays in the future.
