Nicholas Leichter Dance

Nicholas Leichter DanceNicholas Leichter Dance is coming to Cornell to perform at the Schwartz Center’s Kiplinger Theatre. The performance date is October 1st—show time is 7:30 pm.

Nicholas Leichter Dance has recently performed in New York City at the esteemed Joyce Theatre. The New York Times called it “a party onstage” and referenced to “club-style dancing.” I was intrigued by the idea of club dancing making its way onto the Kiplinger stage, so I searched on YouTube for some samples of this dance company’s performances. I was blown away. The dancing is a combination of hip-hop, modern, and African. It blends popular dancing as we know it to exist in our lives today with the more traditional styles on which contemporary club dancing is built. Student dance groups that like to incorporate good hip hop into their pieces may want to especially check out this performance. From what I saw, Nicholas Leichter seems to share our common loves of good hip hop music and good hip hop dancing. This performance looks to be great for audience members of all ages, but I am especially excited to see a performance that directly incorporates OUR ways of dancing into its choreography. The commonalities between Cornell students and this company may become interestingly obvious when they perform. I think this is one dance show that no one should miss.
