Support local talent at Dance Festival

Dancers and musicians from Cornell, Ithaca College and the Ithaca community will present a diverse group of original pieces during the Mini-Locally Grown Dance Festival, Dec. 2-4, at Cornell’s Schwartz Center for the Performing Arts.
The December festival is a preview of the spring Largely Locally Grown Dance Festival, planned for March 3-12. That event will include more than 15 premieres of dance, music, short theatre pieces and films from artists who have emerged from the Ithaca area. It will feature choereographers, dancers, musicians, filmmakers, curators and artists connected to Cornell, Ithaca College and community and regional groups.

December’s festival includes three shows:
• A Faculty Repertory Program of works created by Cornell and Ithaca College dance faculty Byron Suber, Jumay Chu, Joyce Morgenroth, Janice Kovar, Beth Milles, Amy O’Brien and Lindsay Gilmore. Performers in this program are primarily students from both schools.
• A Student Repertory Program of works created by students from both schools.
• “Always Already Arriving,” a collaboration between IC dance professor Lindsay Gilmore and local musicians.
The festival will include a wide range of music and styles of dance, representing the theme of both fall and spring festivals — “Come to Expect the Unexpected.”
All performances will take place in the Class of ’56 Dance Theater at the Schwartz Center, 430 College Ave. Tickets can be purchased by visiting the Schwartz Center box office, calling 254-ARTS or going online to http://www.schwartztickets.com. Tickets for each performance are $4 plus a $1 ticketing fee, but tickets to additional shows are discounted $1.
