Nick Salvato, Assistant Professor of Theatre, is celebrating the publication of his first book, “Uncloseting Drama: American Modernism and Queer Performance,” part of the Yale University Press series, Yale Studies in English.
Salvato is also the guest editor of the Fall 2010 issue of the journal Modern Drama, published by the University of Toronto Press. In the book, Salvato illuminates modernism through little-known but striking works by Ezra Pound, Gertrude Stein, and others who revived the “closet drama”– plays written largely for private reading — as a means of exploring forbidden sexualities.
The Fall issue of Modern Drama focuses on gossip, with Salvato writing the opening editorial comment and working with various other authors whose works focus on the relationship and affinity between gossip and drama, theatre and performance.
Salvato’s articles have appeared or are forthcoming in such journals as Camera Obscura, the Journal of Dramatic Theory and Criticism, TDR: The Drama Review, Theatre Journal, Theatre Survey, and Modern Drama, where he is the incoming Book Review Editor.
